The picturesque private club, located in Macedon, opened in 1987 as a semi-private club, and became a private, members-owned entity in 1993. The course was designed by Pete Craig and Richard Bator.

Blue Heron Hills Country Club plays to a par-71 and 6,759 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 72.1 with a slope rating of 125.

For the past 20 years Blue Heron Hills Country Club has hosted the annual Tournament of Champions that features some of the finest male amateurs in the Rochester area, and it was also the site of the Hillside Skins Challenge, a charity event where some of the greatest players in the history of golf - including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Greg Norman - participated.

Financial difficulties began a few years ago as a sagging economy helped lead to a sharp decrease in membership. Many of those lost memberships were not recouped, and the shortfall in initiation fees and dues drove the club into debt.

There was doubt the club would be operational in 2009, but it pressed forward on a vastly scaled-back budget, but with more members leaving at the end of 2009 because they were unwilling to pay fees and assessments to help chew up some of the debt, the club decided to close its doors as of January 2010.

Good news, the Course reopened in the spring of 2010. Under new ownership, Blue Heron Hills Golf Club (formerly Blue Heron Hills Country Club) kicked off the 2010 season as a semi-private golf club with competitively-priced season memberships and daily fee golf. Blue Heron Hills Golf Club offers a unique playing experience for golfers of all abilities with its interesting golf architecture sculpted into a picturesque backdrop of natural woodlands, lakes and wetlands.
